Montgó, coastal paths, cycling and charming villages: the Marina Alta invites you beyond the beach.
Dénia is not only coastline. The Montgó Natural Park dominates the skyline; coastal paths link coves; inland valleys such as Gallinera or Guadalest make fine day trips. From Els Poblets, LocDenia is a comfortable base for walking, cycling or slow driving.
Montgó Natural Park
The limestone mass of Montgó (753 m) separates Dénia and Jávea, with routes of varying difficulty from La Creueta or Colonia de Sant Pere. Hiking shoes, water and sun protection are essential; follow signs and protect the flora.
- Avoid midday heat in summer.
- Check trail conditions before climbing.
- Reward: panoramic views over the coast.
Coastal path and Les Rotes
On foot by the sea, Les Rotes and coastal access paths link coves, viewpoints and Cap de San Antonio lighthouse (final section more demanding). A slow, beautiful way to see Dénia's rocky side — best at dawn or dusk.
- Bring water and a hat: little shade on open sections.
- Combine with a swim in rocky coves afterwards.
- Watch for wind on levante days.
Cycling and the greenway
The flat marinas area suits family cycling. For a longer ride, the old Valenciana railway greenway between Dénia, El Verger and beyond offers gentle gradients among orange groves and villages. Bike hire in Dénia; LocDenia can point you to options.
- Helmet and lights if you ride at dusk.
- Carry water and a small repair kit.
- In summer, start early to beat the heat.
Day trips: Jávea, Moraira and Guadalest
Within 20–50 minutes by car you can reach Jávea old town, Peñón de Ifach in Calpe, Moraira cliffs or Guadalest reservoir and its hanging village — mountain, coves or postcard towns.
- Leave early in August for popular coves.
- Mix a mountain day with a beach day.
